Police arrest three suspected kidnappers in Northern Region operation

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers following an intelligence-led operation carried out on Saturday, December 6, at Bokpaba, a community along the Bimbilla–Yendi stretch of the Eastern Corridor.

The suspects, Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi, and Osman Bandi, are believed to be part of a four-member kidnapping syndicate linked to the abduction of a 42-year-old man from Wapuli in the Yendi District.

According to police, the group demanded a ransom of GH¢100,000 from the victim’s family in exchange for his release.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 8, the Police said the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) swiftly deployed a five-member team to Wapuli after receiving information about the incident. The team was tasked with monitoring the suspects, rescuing the victim, and effecting arrests.

The operation escalated on Friday, December 5, when officers engaged the suspects in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Despite the risks, the Police successfully rescued the victim unharmed and arrested three members of the syndicate.

A fourth suspect managed to escape during the gun battle and is believed to have sustained gunshot wounds. His identity has not yet been disclosed.

The Police have appealed to residents of Wapuli, Bimbilla, Yendi, and surrounding communities to report any suspicious individuals or provide information that could lead to the arrest of the fugitive.

The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as investigations continue. The Northern Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring public safety.
