The Office of the Special Prosecutor has launched a major crackdown on suspected petroleum import fraud, conducting court-approved raids on five fuel depots and associated Bulk Distribution Company facilities across Ghana.
The coordinated operation targets alleged under-declaration of petroleum imports, misrepresentation of fuel types during depot transfers, and systematic tax evasion, the OSP announced.
Early findings suggest some Bulk Distribution Companies may have colluded with officials from the National Petroleum Authority, the Ghana Revenue Authority, and the National Security Secretariat to facilitate illicit financial transactions. Investigators say intermediaries appear to have played a role in moving funds outside legal channels.
Companies under scrutiny
The five companies currently facing investigation are:
· Platon Oil and Gas Ltd
· Sentuo Oil
· Akwaaba Oil
· Sahara Oil and Gas Ltd
· Chase Petroleum Ghana Ltd
During the raids, authorities seized critical documents and electronic records. Several individuals described as “persons of interest” have been taken into custody for questioning.
The OSP stressed that the investigation remains active, with further updates expected as evidence is analysed.
