A shooting incident linked to a land ownership dispute has left one person dead and two others critically injured in the Nyalewa community within the Asawase Constituency.
The violence broke out around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, following a heated confrontation between two individuals claiming ownership of the same parcel of land, according to eyewitnesses.
One of the parties, believed to have legally acquired the property, was confronted by another individual who also asserted rightful ownership. The disagreement escalated rapidly, culminating in gunfire that killed one person on the spot and left two others with life-threatening injuries.
Residents described scenes of panic as people fled the sound of gunshots in the normally calm community.
Police personnel responded swiftly to restore order. The injured victims were transported to Manhyia Government Hospital, where they are receiving emergency treatment.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the shooting. The individual is in custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The incident has reignited concerns over escalating violent land disputes in parts of Kumasi, particularly in densely populated areas where conflicting documentation and unclear boundaries frequently trigger tensions.
Community members are urging authorities to address the root causes of such disputes and strengthen security presence to prevent future violence.
Police have assured the public of a thorough investigation and called on individuals involved in land disagreements to pursue lawful and peaceful resolutions rather than resorting to force.
The identities of the deceased and the injured have not yet been officially released. Authorities have pledged to ensure justice is served.
