Community leaders in Nima have issued a strong appeal for peace and democratic respect, urging the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to formally accept the results of the recent Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries that elected Baba Jamal as the party’s candidate.
The call was made by Seidu Hassan Fuseini, widely known as Chief Louis, who serves as Chairman of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in Ayawaso East. Speaking on behalf of the community during a press conference at the Zabaama Palace in Nima on Tuesday, Chief Louis emphasized that the primary outcome reflects the will of the people and should be upheld.
“We are appealing to the authorities to respect the results from the primaries,” stated Chief Louis. He described Baba Jamal as a unifier, best positioned to bridge divides and foster lasting peace within the diverse constituency.
While acknowledging the capability of all candidates who participated in the process, the chiefs warned that any attempt to invalidate the election results could destabilize the community. “Any move to overturn this result will plunge Nima into chaos and unrest,” Chief Louis cautioned.
The leaders stressed that stability and communal harmony are paramount, and called on all NDC stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of constituents over internal political disputes. Their unified stance underscores a community-wide desire for continuity and development, with traditional authorities positioning themselves as guardians of local unity.
This show of support comes amid broader discussions concerning the integrity of recent party primaries across the country. The Nima chiefs’ intervention highlights the significant role local leaders are playing in advocating for a peaceful and respected democratic process ahead of the general elections.
