New firm launches in Accra to help policyholders navigate insurance claims

A new player has entered Ghana’s insurance landscape with a promise to help policyholders overcome the delays, denials, and frustrations that often accompany claims processes.

Insurance Claims Specialist Group (ICSG) Ltd officially launched operations in Accra last week, positioning itself as an independent ally for individuals and businesses seeking to access their legitimate insurance benefits. The East Legon-based firm will handle matters ranging from motor vehicle and home insurance claims to long-unresolved cases dating back several years.

The launch event, held at the Mensvic Hotel, drew industry regulators, insurance executives, and stakeholders who underscored the urgent need to rebuild public confidence in Ghana’s insurance sector—particularly at the claims stage, where trust is most frequently eroded.

A ‘Moment of Purpose’

Delivering the keynote address, Dennis Yaw Tuffour, Chief Executive Officer of ICSG Ltd, described the occasion as more than a corporate debut.

“Today is a proud moment for us,” he said. “But more than that, it is a moment of purpose. This occasion is not only about the opening of a company. It is about a commitment to professionalism, a commitment to integrity, and a commitment to strengthening confidence in Ghana’s insurance industry.”

Mr Tuffour cited the National Insurance Commission’s 2024 Annual Report, which showed industry assets climbing to GHS 20.4 billion and revenue reaching GHS 7.3 billion. Despite these gains, he noted that public trust has failed to keep pace—a reality reflected in Ghana’s stubbornly low insurance penetration rates.

“These numbers matter,” he observed. “They show that insurance is becoming more important. But the report also tells us something else. It means the industry may be growing in size, but public confidence is not growing at the same pace.”

He stressed that the claims process represents the ultimate test of credibility for insurers. “Claims are where insurance becomes real. Claims are where trust is built—or broken. Where claims are handled fairly, confidence grows. Where claims are delayed, poorly assessed, or unfairly disputed, the damage goes beyond one file. It affects the reputation of the entire industry.”

Five Core Principles

ICSG Ltd has pledged to operate on five foundational pillars: independence and integrity; efficient and high-quality service delivery; strict regulatory and technical compliance; respectful and transparent treatment of claimants; and active support for anti-fraud efforts and market consistency.

A Call for National Impact

Richard Gyan-Mensah, Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, who attended on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, congratulated the new firm while challenging it to contribute meaningfully to national development.

He emphasised that the insurance sector must evolve in step with Ghana’s transforming economy and that public trust would remain the ultimate measure of success.

“Your success will be measured by the trust you build,” Mr Gyan-Mensah stated.

He urged ICSG Ltd to balance speed with fairness in claims handling and called for enhanced public education so citizens fully understand both the claims process and their rights under insurance policies. He also advocated for stronger collaboration among insurers, regulators, and government bodies to transform insurance into a dependable safety net for households and businesses nationwide.

Collective Action for Lasting Change

In his closing remarks, Mr Tuffour emphasised that restoring confidence cannot be achieved by any single institution working alone.

“Trust in insurance cannot be built by one institution alone. It requires partnership,” he said. “Our ambition is not only to build a successful company. Our ambition is to make a meaningful contribution to an insurance market that is stronger, fairer, more transparent, and more trusted for the good people of Ghana.”

The launch of ICSG Ltd arrives at a critical juncture as Ghana’s financial sector intensifies efforts to broaden insurance uptake and strengthen consumer confidence. The firm aims to serve as a reliable guide for policyholders navigating what many still perceive as a complex and often frustrating claims landscape.
