NDC youth protest Supreme Court ruling, demand election review in Kpandai

The youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) staged a public demonstration in Kpandai on Monday, demanding the party’s national leadership seek an immediate review of the Supreme Court’s decision on the constituency’s parliamentary election result.

The protest follows a Supreme Court ruling that overturned a High Court judgment which had previously annulled the election victory of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Matthew Nyindam.

Chanting “No Nsala, no NDC in Kpandai,” the demonstrators marched through the town’s principal streets. They called on the governing NDC to take a firm stand, reject the court’s latest ruling, and push for a rerun of the parliamentary election in the constituency.

In a statement to the press, the youth group outlined two key demands: an immediate application for a review of the Supreme Court judgment, and the enforcement of discipline among local constituency executives. The protestors accused these executives of failing to adequately represent the interests of the party’s grassroots supporters.

“This protest is to protect the credibility of our party and to seek justice for our loyal supporters in Kpandai,” a spokesperson for the group said. They emphasized that decisive action from the national leadership is crucial.

The demonstration highlights ongoing political tensions in the constituency following the protracted legal battle over the 2024 parliamentary election results. The NDC’s national leadership has yet to issue an official response to the demands of the youth wing.
