NDC Opens Nominations for Ayawaso East Parliamentary Primary Ahead of By-Election
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially opened nominations for its parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, with the election set for Saturday, February 7, 2026.
The primary became necessary following the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away on January 4, 2026, after a short illness.
In a press statement signed by NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, the party announced that aspiring candidates can pick up nomination forms from the Greater Accra Regional Secretariat starting today, January 24, 2026. Completed forms must be returned by January 27, 2026, with vetting of aspirants scheduled for January 28, 2026.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has scheduled the parliamentary by-election for Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Candidates who emerge from the NDC primary will submit their nomination forms to the Ayawaso East Municipal Office of the Commission between February 9 and 11, 2026.
The NDC has set the cost of nomination forms at GH¢5,000, with a filing fee of GH¢40,000. Female aspirants and Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) will receive a 50% discount on the filing fee. The Electoral Commission has fixed its by-election filing fee at GH¢10,000, reduced to GH¢7,500 for female candidates and PWDs.
The primary and subsequent by-election will fill the vacant parliamentary seat and restore representation for the people of Ayawaso East Constituency.
