The National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has made a passionate appeal to Mr. Umar Sanda, an independent parliamentary candidate in the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, to reconsider his decision to contest.
Speaking at a mini rally yesterday, Mr. Nketiah, widely known as General Mosquito, extended an olive branch to the former party member, promising a pathway back into the NDC should he step down from the race.
“Please talk to him to step down. Once he does that, I will reverse his expulsion letter and he will be brought back into the party. I can assure him,” Mr. Nketiah stated.
The appeal comes just a week after Umar Sanda was officially expelled from the NDC. His decision to file nomination forms to contest the seat as an independent candidate prompted the party’s disciplinary action.
Umar Sanda, a known figure within the constituency’s NDC structure, had been a member of the party prior to the by-election.
Political analysts are closely monitoring the situation in Ayawaso East, where the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to mount a strong challenge. Observers note that Sanda’s continued presence in the race could divide the NDC’s traditional voter base. This split, they warn, might create a clear path for the NPP to clinch the seat—a feat the party has not achieved in the constituency since 1992.
