Popular Ghanaian actress and television presenter Nana Ama McBrown has publicly announced that she is divorced from her husband of twelve years, Maxwell Mensah.
She made the revelation on TV3’s New Day, explaining that the decision to end the marriage was mutual and amicable.
“I’m the happiest right now. I have gone through divorce. Yes, I am divorced. I am not ashamed to say it, and I did so beautifully. Me and my husband are cool. We spoke yesterday, we speak today, we speak tomorrow. I visit our house and see my in-laws,” she said.
McBrown emphasised that despite the separation, she maintains a cordial relationship with her ex-husband and his family. She noted that although her former in-laws and husband wanted her to stay in the marriage, she felt she could not continue.
“He is a correct guy. I still care for him, but I got tired of the marriage,” she added.
The actress revealed that the marriage was contracted under customary law, meaning the separation required only the involvement of both families.
What brings her the most joy, McBrown said, is their daughter, Maxine, whom she described as a precious gift from the marriage. She also indicated that she does not plan to remarry, although she is open to having more children.
“I will not marry again. I can give birth again, but I won’t marry again,” she said.
Reflecting on her 12-year marriage, McBrown urged people to celebrate couples who stay together for that long, especially in the public eye.
Before her announcement, there had been widespread rumours about difficulties in their marriage, with some reports suggesting alleged extramarital affairs on Maxwell Mensah’s part may have contributed to the breakdown.
Nana Ama McBrown and Maxwell Mensah were married for 12 years and share one daughter, Maxine.
