The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a woman described by community opinion leaders as a major figure in the local drug trade during an anti-narcotics operation in Budumburam and surrounding areas in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.
The operation, conducted on Friday, January 16, formed part of NACOC’s ongoing nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse. Several illicit substances were seized, and multiple suspects believed to be involved in drug peddling were arrested.
Among those apprehended was a 32-year-old woman identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother.” Local opinion leaders described her as a key player in the area’s drug trade who had previously managed to evade arrest.
NACOC said the suspect had been under surveillance for some time due to intelligence linking her to various forms of illicit drug trafficking.
“She has been on the radar of NACOC’s intelligence and surveillance team due to her involvement in all manner of illicit drug trafficking activities,” the Commission said.
The Commission also disclosed that it had received numerous complaints from residents regarding criminal activities allegedly linked to some of the suspects currently in custody.
During the raid, officers seized quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol and other controlled substances, along with items believed to be connected to drug peddling.
NACOC reiterated its resolve to intensify efforts against drug-related crimes nationwide, assuring the public of its commitment to making Ghana a drug-free country.
