MCE stops works at health center, orders contractor to re-roof with approved materials

The Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, has intervened to ensure quality control at a government project site, ordering a contractor to immediately replace substandard roofing materials at the under-construction Wute Health Center.

During an unannounced inspection about two weeks ago, Hon. Dagba discovered that the contractor had used 0.2-gauge roofing sheets for the facility, despite explicit directives to utilize the more durable 0.4-gauge specification. The MCE, who was en route to Logotey when he made the stop, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the deviation from the approved standards.

Expressing concern over the durability and safety of the structure, the MCE instructed the contractor to completely strip the substandard sheets from the roof and replace them with the correct 0.4-gauge materials.

“The MCE’s swift action demonstrates his commitment to value for money and ensuring that public health infrastructure is built to last,” a statement from the assembly noted.

The contractor has since complied with the directive, and work is currently underway to reroof the building with the approved, higher-quality materials.

Residents and stakeholders in the Wute enclave have lauded the Chief Executive’s hands-on approach. Many see the intervention as a testament to the assembly’s dedication to accountability and the prudent use of public funds. Once completed, the health center is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery for Wute and the surrounding communities.
