President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned government appointees to guard against complacency, reminding them that power is temporary and must be exercised with humility, empathy, and a strong sense of responsibility to the people.
He delivered the admonition during his First Anniversary Non-Denominational Thanksgiving Service held at the forecourt of the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 7.
The President said thanksgiving should not be limited to expressions of gratitude but must inspire a renewed commitment to ethical governance, national cohesion, and service to the most vulnerable in society.
He noted that the year ahead would pose significant tests to the resolve, patience, and discipline of leaders, while also presenting opportunities to deepen ongoing reforms and fast-track national development.
President Mahama stressed that leadership is a trust that is temporary in nature, urging appointees to recommit themselves to selfless service in the interest of all Ghanaians.
“Let us move forward with humility, lead with empathy, and govern with courage,” he said, adding that the coming year would demand greater sacrifice and discipline from those in authority. He emphasised that while leadership brings opportunities for progress, it remains a fleeting responsibility held in trust for the people.
