Mahama says tough decisions over past year have laid foundation for Ghana’s future

President John Dramani Mahama says his government has taken difficult but necessary decisions over the past year to lay a strong foundation for Ghana’s long-term development.

Addressing the National Thanksgiving Day service at the forecourt of the Presidency on Wednesday, the President admitted that the impact of these decisions may not yet be fully evident but stressed that they are intended to steer the country towards sustainable growth.

Reflecting on his first year in office, President Mahama said his administration had undertaken tough reforms and made bold choices aimed at securing Ghana’s future progress, even if the results are not immediately visible.

He also noted that the government has worked to restore confidence in the country both domestically and internationally, with a focus on economic stabilisation, institutional reforms, social protection, and rebuilding trust.

According to him, national progress should not be assessed solely through statistics and data, but also through renewed hope, restored trust, and a clear sense of direction for the country.

The National Thanksgiving Service was held to mark President Mahama’s one year in office as the sixth President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic. He was sworn in on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, by former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
