President John Dramani Mahama has appointed creative entrepreneur Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as the High Commissioner Designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The nomination was announced on Sunday, March 1, 2026, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, via his official Facebook page. Mr. Ablakwa shared a graphic featuring Mr. Sadiq’s image, extending his congratulations and expressing confidence in the appointment.
“Congratulations, Baba Sadiq, on your well-deserved appointment by President Mahama as High Commissioner designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mr. Ablakwa wrote. “I have no doubt you will hold aloft Ghana’s flag and make the youth of our continent proud.”
The appointment brings a prominent figure from Ghana’s creative and media industries into a key diplomatic role. Here are five key things to know about the new High Commissioner Designate:
- Recent Political Candidate
Baba Sadiq recently ventured into elective politics, contesting the Okaikoi Central Constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections. He was, however, defeated by the incumbent, Patrick Yaw Boamah. - A Veteran Media and Communications Specialist
He is a trained media and communications professional with a career spanning two decades in Africa’s media landscape. His experience covers roles as a media executive, entrepreneur, and communications strategist focused on building sustainable industries within the sector. - Founder of 3Music Networks and WILDALAND

His entrepreneurial footprint in the creative sector also includes a pivotal role as the founding director for Africa’s leading digital streaming service, Boomplay, in Ghana. He established the Ghanaian operation, built the local team, and helped the platform amass nearly 11 million users while securing content from key Ghanaian and African creators.
- Extensive Production and Broadcasting Background
Before his entrepreneurial ventures, Sadiq served as Head of Programmes and Own Productions at Modern Times Group (MTG) Africa’s Viasat1, where his team garnered 18 awards in just 18 months. He also managed operations for pan-African channel Trace TV in Ghana and co-founded Muse Africa, a millennial-focused lifestyle brand. At Muse Africa, he led the #MuseParticipate active citizenship campaign in partnership with Oxfam International. - Pan-African Collaborations and Education
His work has seen him collaborate with major international networks like Viacom International, MTV Base, and Rockstar400 on projects such as the One8 initiative featuring R. Kelly alongside eight African artists. He has also served as an associate producer for major events like Vodafone’s 020Live and, in 2019, for Afronation Ghana.
