Lord Boam skills development Centre inaugurated in Yeji to empower youth in Pru East

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, together with the Member of Parliament for Pru East, Boam Kwaku Emmanuel, has officially commissioned the Lord Boam Skills Development and Training Centre at Yeji, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen technical and vocational education in the Bono East Region.

The newly established facility is poised to become a vital hub for skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development, particularly targeting young people within the Pru East constituency. The centre is designed to offer hands-on training across a range of technical and vocational disciplines, equipping beneficiaries with practical competencies aligned with current industry demands.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key driver of national development. He noted that the establishment of the centre is part of broader efforts to expand access to quality skills training at both secondary and tertiary levels.

The Regional Minister further highlighted the importance of the Free National Apprenticeship Programme, describing it as a flagship initiative aimed at equipping the youth with employable skills while fostering industrial growth. According to him, the programme is already making significant strides in reducing unemployment and enhancing productivity across various sectors of the economy.

Hon. Boam Kwaku Emmanuel, MP for Pru East, underscored the importance of investing in human capital development within the constituency. He stated that the Lord Boam Skills Development and Training Centre would not only provide training opportunities but also serve as a platform for nurturing innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among the youth.

The centre is expected to deliver structured training programmes that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring that trainees are well-prepared to either enter the job market or establish their own businesses. Stakeholders believe this approach will promote self-reliance and reduce over-dependence on white-collar employment.

The initiative also aims to stimulate local economic activity by building a skilled workforce capable of supporting small and medium-scale enterprises in the area. Community leaders and residents have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that it will create sustainable job opportunities and improve livelihoods.

The commissioning of the facility reflects the government’s broader agenda under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise skills development as a foundation for inclusive growth and national transformation.

Overall, the establishment of the Lord Boam Skills Development and Training Centre represents a strategic investment in the future of Pru East, with the potential to drive youth empowerment, boost employment, and accelerate socio-economic development in the region.
