Legendary Ghanaian gospel singer Maame Tiwaa, renowned for her powerful vocals with the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo band, has passed away in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Born Mary Tiwaa, she was a prominent figure in Ghana’s contemporary gospel scene for over three decades, admired for her exceptional vocal delivery and the spiritual depth of her performances.
She was best known for her contributions to some of Asomafo’s most celebrated songs, including Wo Haw Ne Sen?, Awurade Ka Me Ho, Yen Fa Oye Nkoaa, and Mensuro, which became cherished staples in Christian homes and worship spaces across the country.
Maame Tiwaa also captivated audiences with her solo performances and live ministrations, often described as soul-stirring and deeply anointed.
Her distinctive voice became synonymous with the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo sound, helping solidify the group’s reputation as one of Ghana’s most influential gospel collectives.
