Hope is on the horizon for residents of Daaban Newsite as the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, conducted an on-site inspection of the long-awaited road construction project, which is now in its final stages.
The six-kilometre road network, notorious for its dusty and virtually impassable condition for decades, is set to transform transportation in the area. Upon completion, the new road will establish a vital link between Daaban Newsite and key neighbouring communities, including Sokoban, Santase, and Ejisu, promising a major boost to connectivity and commuter mobility.
Accompanied by road engineers and technical officers from the contracting firm Doncross Limited, the Mayor expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the work. He emphasized that the project is a key component of a broader governmental strategy to upgrade road infrastructure throughout the metropolis.
“This project is about more than just laying asphalt; it is about addressing the daily hardships our residents have faced for too long,” Mayor Boadi stated during the tour. He highlighted the multifaceted benefits of the development, noting it would not only ease traffic congestion but also significantly reduce dust pollution, thereby improving air quality and the overall living conditions for the community. Furthermore, the improved accessibility is expected to stimulate local economic activity and enhance property values.
Officials from the Department of Urban Roads provided a technical update on the project’s progress. The Ashanti Regional Director of Urban Roads, Na-em Iddrisu, confirmed that significant milestones have been achieved. “The drainage infrastructure is fully completed, and the road base has been successfully compacted. We are now making final preparations for the bitumen surfacing,” Mr. Iddrisu explained.
He assured eager residents that the finish line is in sight, stating that the final surfacing phase is scheduled to commence next week. “If the weather remains favourable, we are confident that this road network will be opened to traffic within the next two weeks,” he added.
Following the inspection in Daaban, the mayoral team proceeded to Duase Newsite to assess the pressing road infrastructure challenges there. City authorities announced that preliminary steps are already being taken to address the poor road conditions in that community. Plans are being finalised for a proposed road project that will link Duase Newsite to Buoban and Asokore Mampong, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.
Residents of both communities have voiced their optimism that these interventions will finally end their years of transportation struggles, paving the way for improved safety, economic growth, and a better quality of life.
