The Dental Department of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, in collaboration with corporate partners, has provided free dental services and health screenings to approximately 200 residents of the Agege community. The outreach, held on March 27 at Karikari Brobbey Park, was organized to commemorate World Oral Health Day.
Led by Dr. R. N. A. Taylor Dawson, the initiative marked the department’s fifth consecutive year of community engagement for the global awareness day. Operating under the theme, “A happy mouth is… a happy life,” the event was supported by Pepsodent, Mega Life Sciences Ghana Limited, and Jos Pharmacy.
Attendees received professional dental screenings, oral health education, and tooth extractions where necessary. Students from St. Mary’s Senior High School were among those who benefited. In addition to dental care, the Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Valerie Osei-Tutu, coordinated general health screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood glucose testing, HIV testing, and Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments.
The event also drew government officials, including the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Honourable Rev Dr. Kweku Addo, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable George Allotey.
Rev. Dr. Addo praised the hospital’s efforts and emphasized the importance of oral health as a critical component of overall well-being, urging residents to prioritize regular check-ups. Hon. Allotey expressed support for initiatives that improve access to healthcare at the grassroots level.
Participants received dental care products, samples, and medications donated by the partnering organizations. Hospital officials stated that the outreach reaffirmed the commitment of stakeholders to strengthening healthcare delivery and promoting preventive care within local communities.
