The Ministry of the Interior has stated that it has no record or report of any assassination attempt on the Special Prosecutor, Mr Kissi Agyebeng, contrary to claims made by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
In a press statement issued on Monday, December 8, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to claims that the Special Prosecutor had survived two assassination attempts while carrying out his official duties. The allegation was made by the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Mr Samuel Appiah Darko, during a discussion on Newsfile on December 6, 2025.
Mr Darko had also alleged that he was handcuffed and assaulted by 17 police officers.
The Ministry described the allegations as serious and potentially damaging to the government’s anti-corruption agenda, stressing that it had therefore taken up the matter with the urgency it deserves.
Providing preliminary findings, the Ministry disclosed that initial engagements with Mr Agyebeng indicated the alleged assassination attempts occurred before this year. It, however, noted that there is no record of any complaints or reports of threats against his life at any police station or with any state security agency.
The Interior Minister has since ordered a full-scale investigation into both claims. The Ministry emphasized that “crime does not expire” and said investigations will cover the alleged assassination attempts as well as Mr Darko’s claim that he was handcuffed and beaten by police officers.
The Ministry said the public would be duly updated on the outcome of the investigations and any actions that may follow. It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property to ensure that citizens can go about their lawful activities without fear.
