IGP promotes Police Royal Ladies after guard of honour for Otumfuo

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yuhonu has promoted all members of the Police Royal Ladies, a special all-female unit of the Ghana Police Service named after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to their next ranks.

The promotion follows two separate parades of honour mounted by the group for Otumfuo—first at the Police Headquarters on January 6, 2026, and later at the first Akwasidae of the year held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Addressing the Akwasidae gathering, the IGP said the guard of honour was a symbolic gesture to express the Ghana Police Service’s deep appreciation for Otumfuo’s historic visit to the Police Headquarters.

He explained that the Police Royal Ladies, named in honour of the Asantehene, were present to grace the occasion and to mark a first-of-its-kind appearance at the Manhyia Palace, witnessed by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB).

Mr Yuhonu praised the dedication and professionalism of the officers, noting that they had distinguished themselves through hard work and commitment to national service.

“I wish to announce to Otumfuo that these ladies have been working very hard and have distinguished themselves. They are always ready to do everything possible to make Ghana proud,” he said.

He added that, in recognition of their service and in view of the historic nature of both the guard of honour at the Police Headquarters and the visit to the Manhyia Palace, the police administration had decided to promote all members of the unit to their next ranks.
