The High Court in Koforidua has dismissed an election petition filed by Prince Addo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Suhum, challenging the election of Frank Asiedu Bekoe, also known as Protozoa, as Member of Parliament for the constituency.
The court ruled that the petition did not provide sufficient grounds to overturn the Electoral Commission’s declaration. The judge noted that the petitioner failed to present compelling evidence to prove any alleged irregularities that could have affected the election outcome.
According to the ruling, the claims raised by Prince Addo were either unsubstantiated or did not meet the legal threshold required under Ghanaian electoral laws. The petition was therefore deemed to lack merit and was dismissed entirely.
In response, lawyers representing Frank Asiedu Bekoe welcomed the decision, saying it affirmed the will of the people of Suhum as expressed at the polls. They added that the judgment strengthens confidence in the electoral process and called on all parties to respect the outcome and work together for the constituency’s development.
