Heath Goldfields Bogoso-Prestea Mine has paid GH¢136 million towards clearing outstanding legacy liabilities owed to former workers of the Bogoso-Prestea mine, marking a major step in resolving inherited obligations.
The payment, announced in a company press release on January 19, 2026, fulfils part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union (GMWU).
The disbursement is part of Heath Goldfields’ broader strategy to address historical liabilities, enhance regulatory compliance, and reinforce responsible mining practices.
“The fulfilment of these commitments reflects our growing credibility as a company that delivers on our assurances and stands firmly by our word,” the press release stated. It also expressed appreciation to the GMWU leadership for their “constructive engagement, partnership and shared commitment to fairness” in resolving the inherited matters.
The company emphasised that integrity guides its actions, adding: “Honouring these obligations reinforces our purpose of Enriching Lives Through Sustainable Gold Mining and strengthens the trust we continue to build with our employees, partners and communities.”
Heath Goldfields said it is collaborating closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to meet all statutory, financial, and operational responsibilities in accordance with Ghanaian laws and industry best practices.
