Gospel star Celestine Donkor shuts down thriving restaurant to focus on music

Award-winning gospel musician Celestine Donkor has opened up about making the difficult decision to close her once-booming restaurant business in order to dedicate herself fully to her music career.

Speaking in a recent interview, the celebrated artist revealed that while her food business was performing well, the demands of her growing music career left her with no choice but to shut it down.

“The restaurant was doing really well, but time became my biggest challenge,” Donkor explained. “I would be traveling abroad for shows, and back home, customers would be demanding food and other items. The business started suffering because I simply wasn’t there to oversee it.”

The gospel star, who recently marked two decades in the music industry, said her passion for gospel music ultimately won the day. “I love music, and the demand for my services keeps increasing. I was running a restaurant, but because of time constraints, I had to shut it down and focus entirely on my gospel ministry,” she stated.

Donkor emphasized that going all in on music was a bold but necessary move. “You can’t rely on someone else to manage your business while it’s crumbling. I decided to put all my energy into what I’m most passionate about.”

Looking back on her 20-year journey, the musician expressed gratitude for how far she has come. “Twenty years in music is no small feat. I’m happy to still be here, and I know I’ve made a significant impact on Ghana’s music industry.”

When asked about her place in the contemporary gospel scene, Donkor confidently stated that her contributions over the past two decades speak for themselves. “I believe it would be unfair for anyone to exclude me from the top ten artists in Ghana right now. The impact is evident for all to see.”

The multiple award-winning artiste has become one of the most recognizable voices in Ghanaian gospel music, with numerous hit songs and collaborations to her credit.
