GoldBod denies allegations of irregularities in GH¢11m renovation contract

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has firmly rejected allegations that it irregularly awarded an GHS11 million office renovation contract, describing the claims as “completely false” and a malicious attempt to tarnish its reputation.

In an official statement issued in response to what it calls “fake news,” the Board clarified the procurement process behind the renovation of its new headquarters. According to GoldBod, the project became necessary following its establishment in April 2025, which saw the recruitment of over 300 staff members and the creation of several new directorates and units.

“The previous offices, inherited from the defunct PMMC, were dilapidated and structurally inadequate to accommodate the spatial and functional needs of the new organisation,” the statement explained. “A relocation and comprehensive renovation were therefore imperative.”

The Board detailed that, in compliance with state procurement laws, it sought and obtained approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) on 24 June 2025. Contrary to allegations of sole-sourcing, GoldBod stated that the PPA authorised a restricted tendering process. This led to the shortlisting of three qualified companies, with Correca Ghana Limited ultimately being awarded the contract.

“The mischievous claim that the contract was awarded through sole-sourcing is entirely untrue,” the Board asserted. “Correca Ghana Limited was fully qualified to undertake the works and successfully completed the project in a timely and professional manner.”

To underscore its commitment to transparency, GoldBod announced that the full contract has been published on its official website for public scrutiny. The Board condemned the circulation of false information regarding the tender process, dismissing reports of intercepted documents as baseless and urging the public to disregard what it termed a smear campaign.
