Renowned American gospel singer, worship leader, and pastor Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81.
The news was confirmed on Tuesday by his longtime music director via social media, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the global Christian community.
In a heartfelt post, prominent Nigerian evangelist Bishop Francis Wale Oke described Kenoly as “a true worshipper, a man of humility, and a vessel of grace who carried the presence of God wherever he ministered.”
Kenoly, a defining figure in contemporary worship music, leaves behind a profound legacy. His 1992 album, Lift Him Up, became a global phenomenon, helping popularize a vibrant, congregational style of worship that resonated powerfully across continents.
Hits like Ancient of Days and Jesus Is Alive remain staples in churches worldwide, particularly across Africa and Europe.
Over a decades-long career, Kenoly released numerous acclaimed albums, including God Is Able, Welcome Home, and Sing Out with One Voice. His music uniquely blended gospel, contemporary Christian melodies, and praise choruses, often featuring large choirs and encouraging energetic audience participation.
Beyond recording, Kenoly served for many years as a pastor and worship leader at the Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California. He was also a sought-after speaker and worship facilitator at international conferences and crusades.
