In a decisive action against corruption in public institutions, the bursar of Ghanata Senior High School (SHS) has been arrested for the alleged diversion of food supplies meant for students. The suspect, identified as Lamisi Sarah, was taken into custody following a discreet investigation triggered by complaints from the community.
The arrest was confirmed on Saturday by the Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo. According to the Minister, her office had received credible reports over recent weeks suggesting that the bursar was systematically diverting portions of food provisions allocated for student welfare.
“This is a deeply disturbing act that represents a serious breach of trust,” Minister Ocloo stated. “These supplies are essential for the proper nourishment and well-being of our students, and any diversion of such resources is an attack on their future and an affront to the public’s confidence in our schools.”
Upon receiving the reports, the Minister promptly alerted the National Security apparatus within the constituency, tasking them with conducting a thorough and discreet investigation. The probe yielded results on Tuesday, February 17, while the Minister was present in the constituency. Officials confirmed the alleged diversion of supplies, leading to the immediate apprehension of Lamisi Sarah.
Minister Ocloo directed that the suspect be handed over to the Ghana Police Service to ensure that due process is followed. “I directed the officers to hand her over to the Police so that due process can take its full course under the law,” she said, adding that investigations are ongoing and are expected to continue.
The Minister emphasized that such actions not only undermine the integrity of state institutions but also directly harm the students these institutions are meant to serve. She issued a strong warning that accountability will be upheld at all levels of public service.
“I am committed to protecting the welfare of our students and safeguarding the integrity of public institutions in the Greater Accra Region,” Minister Ocloo affirmed. “We will deal with such breaches of trust decisively, and anyone found culpable will face the full rigours of the law,” he said
