Ghana to admit Burkinabè students into public tertiary institutions at capped fees

Ghana is preparing to open its public tertiary institutions to senior high school graduates from Burkina Faso at capped fees, as part of renewed efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation in education.

The initiative was disclosed in a Facebook post by the Ministry of Education on Thursday, January 15, following a courtesy call by Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. David Kabré, on the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.

According to the Ministry, the meeting explored practical ways of strengthening educational ties between the two neighbouring countries, with discussions extending beyond student admissions to addressing language barriers.

Burkina Faso proposed the training and deployment of teachers to strengthen English language instruction in the Francophone country.

In response, Mr Iddrisu assured the Ambassador of the government’s readiness to support the initiative and announced plans to introduce a Labour Exchange Programme. Under the proposed arrangement, Ghanaian teachers would be deployed to Burkina Faso to teach English, while Burkinabè teachers would be sent to Ghana to teach French.

The measures are expected to promote cross-border academic mobility, enhance bilingual education, and further strengthen regional integration between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
