Ghana Police arrest 22-year-old over viral churches threat video

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man accused of posting a threatening TikTok video that sparked fear among Ghana’s Christian community.

Evans Puplampu, known on TikTok as “Eyes Man,” was taken into custody on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22, following an intelligence-led operation. The arrest came two days after a video showing a young man with his face covered by cloth went viral with the caption: “We are starting from Ghana churches.”

According to a police situational report, the footage was intercepted by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters in Accra on Sunday, April 5. The post quickly spread across social media, triggering panic among churchgoers nationwide.

Investigators say Puplampu admitted to being the person in the video. He told police that he had seen a similar pose trending online and was “just copying for fun,” insisting he had no bad intentions.

Authorities have seized his Samsung Galaxy A15, which was used to create and upload the clip, and are keeping it as an exhibit.

Police said investigations are ongoing and issued a warning to the public against sharing content that could incite fear or disrupt public order.
