Ghana approves passport for IShowSpeed after confirming his ties to the country

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the Ministry has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to popular American streamer and internet personality IShowSpeed, following confirmation of what he described as the influencer’s “irrefutable ties” to Ghana.

In a post on Tuesday, January 27, Mr Ablakwa said the decision was reached after engagements that established IShowSpeed’s connection to the country. He explained that the move reflects Ghana’s openness to embracing members of the global African family who project the nation positively on the world stage.

“I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to IShowSpeed,” the Minister stated.

He encouraged the influencer to continue promoting Ghana and Africa internationally, describing him as a worthy ambassador whose influence extends beyond entertainment. Mr Ablakwa also noted that other individuals who have represented Ghana positively were granted diplomatic passports last year.

The approval follows IShowSpeed’s widely publicised “Speed Does Africa” tour, which ended with a grand homecoming in Ghana on Monday, January 26. During his visit, the streamer immersed himself in Ghanaian culture and heritage, attracting large crowds and global attention.

A key highlight of the trip was a traditional enstoolment ceremony at Akropong in the Eastern Region, where he was given the name Barima Kofi Akuffo during a spiritual naming ritual. His itinerary also included visits to the Asenema Waterfalls, the Akropong-Akuapem palace, Black Star Square, and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

In Accra, he participated in a supercar drifting session, a jollof rice tasting, boxing activities in Bukom, and a visit to the Hammamat Montia Shea Butter Museum, where his tour concluded with a traditional farewell massage.
