The Ga Traditional Council, led by the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has called for the full integration of the Ga and Dangme languages into Ghana’s national education system.
The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on Monday, January 26, as part of efforts to strengthen the use of local languages in education.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II urged that Ga and Dangme be made compulsory subjects in all basic schools across the Greater Accra Region to safeguard the linguistic heritage of the capital.

He also called for the inclusion of the Ga language in the proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) language development partnership with Google, alongside Twi, Ewe and Dagbani, stressing that excluding Ga from the initiative was unacceptable given its significance to Accra’s identity.
The Ga Mantse further proposed the development and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Education and the Ga State to provide a clear long-term policy framework for the teaching, promotion and digital advancement of Ga and Dangme.
The Traditional Council expressed its willingness to work with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to establish the legal and administrative structures needed to support the MoU and ensure accountability, continuity and measurable progress.
The meeting ended with a commitment from both sides to sustain engagement and maintain open communication to ensure the successful implementation of the proposals.
