The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has formally charged former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, with publishing false news, his legal counsel has confirmed.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, said the charge stems from allegations that an individual paid money to secure a government-sponsored scholarship to study abroad.
According to Mr Awuah, Mr Nkansah was arrested on Tuesday and interrogated by NIB officials before the charge was filed.
“He has been charged but remains in NIB custody, even though he was expected to be granted bail. How do you detain someone who has been charged with the publication of false news?” he questioned.
The lawyer disclosed that Mr Nkansah is expected to appear before court on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The development follows a directive by President John Dramani Mahama for the NIB to investigate claims made by Mr Nkansah concerning alleged irregularities in the award of overseas scholarships, which he raised during a discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.
In a statement dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, the Presidency noted that the allegations had attracted widespread public attention after the Twi-language discussion went viral across various media platforms.
Mr Nkansah was later invited by the NIB to assist with investigations after officers conducted a search of his residence on Tuesday.
