Fifty students and teachers from five basic schools in Antoa, in the Ashanti Region, have undertaken a one-day familiarisation tour of Accra, aimed at broadening their horizons and fostering a sense of national pride.
The visit, which took place on Monday, was hosted by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, and formed part of efforts to expose young learners to key national institutions and inspire discipline and purpose through education.
The 50-member delegation, led by the Asunahene of Antoa, Nana Sarkodie Dartey, included 40 students, five staff members, and five community representatives. The participating schools were Antoa M A Primary and Junior High School, CB Mensah SDA Junior High School, Adesina M A Basic School, and Antoa United Primary.
The day began with the delegation witnessing the 47th ceremonial guard change at Jubilee House, the seat of the presidency. They later proceeded to the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces for an interactive session with Lieutenant General Agyapong.
During the session, the CDS shared personal experiences and offered guidance on character development and the importance of national service. He urged the pupils to prioritise their education, noting that academic discipline is the bedrock of future success. He further encouraged them to anchor their ambitions in faith and respect for authority.
The students were also treated to hands-on experiences, including a passenger ride in armoured vehicles and a captivating silent drill display by military personnel. The tour also included a visit to the 153 Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment, where officers explained the unit’s role in national defence and walked the students through operational procedures.
Nana Sarkodie Dartey expressed profound gratitude to Lieutenant General Agyapong and the Ghana Armed Forces for the warm reception. He described the visit as impactful and inspiring, emphasising the value of such initiatives in shaping the aspirations of the youth.
