Family head confirms Daddy Lumba buried at East Legon residence, stirring family feud

The final resting place of Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba has been officially confirmed by his family head, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, ending months of speculation but igniting a fresh dispute within the singer’s extended family.

In an interview with Ezra TV on Thursday, February 26, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu confirmed that the late musician was interred at his private residence in the affluent Accra suburb of East Legon. This confirmation aligns with claims first made by controversial media personality Afia Schwarzenegger in December 2025, who stated that a burial at his home was the singer’s explicit dying wish.

“He was buried at his residence in East Legon, which was his dying wish,” Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu stated, corroborating Afia Schwarzenegger’s earlier revelation. Afia had also disclosed that the legendary highlife icon succumbed to a cardiac arrest.

The confirmation comes amid heightened tensions within the Lumba family. On February 25, a faction of the musician’s extended family convened a meeting at Parkoso, demanding that the family head account for his actions regarding the burial. They accused him of failing to follow traditional and due process before, during, and after the funeral rites.

However, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu pushed back against his accusers, questioning the legitimacy of their concerns. He suggested that their claim of ignorance regarding the burial site was disingenuous, as they had deliberately absented themselves from the funeral proceedings.

“If you chose not to attend the funeral because you were upset about the court’s verdict, how can you now claim you don’t know where Daddy Lumba was buried?” he queried. “You can’t skip the funeral and expect to know the burial site.”

He further noted that the family members were fortunate that the location had been made public by Afia Schwarzenegger, emphasizing that their plea of ignorance was false.

The internal family conflict is escalating, with the aggrieved relatives issuing an ultimatum. They have given Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu until March 11, 2026, to appear before the family elders to respond to the allegations against him. Failure to do so, they warn, could result in his removal as the family head.

This dispute highlights the sensitive intersection of a celebrity’s private wishes, family tradition, and public interest, even months after the icon’s passing.
