Energy sector stakeholders demand clarity on GH₵1 fuel levy

Energy sector players are calling for transparency on the GH₵1-per-litre Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy introduced on July 16, 2025. The levy is intended to raise funds for thermal power generation and settle outstanding debts in the energy sector.

COPEC Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah urged the government to report on revenue generated from the levy in the 2026 Budget and stressed the importance of funding a second gas processing plant at Atuabo to strengthen energy security. Downstream fuel prices have decreased slightly due to marginal cedi stability and favorable international petroleum prices.
