ECG to undertake planned maintenance in Central Region amid weekend power outages

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a scheduled power maintenance exercise for parts of the Central Region on Monday, March 23, 2026, even as its engineers continue repair works following a series of unplanned infrastructure failures over the weekend that left several communities in darkness.

The planned maintenance is set to take place from 8:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday. According to an official advisory from the power distributor, the three-hour outage will affect communities including Dadiesto, Andoe, Besease, Assin Manso, Ochiso, Juaben, and surrounding areas. The company stated that technicians will be undertaking essential infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing service reliability for customers in these localities.

The scheduled exercise follows a weekend of widespread power disruptions across three regions due to separate infrastructure failures.

In the Volta Region, customers in several communities remained without power after a burnt electricity pole at Hodzo Katel Farms disrupted supply. An ECG statement released on Sunday indicated that the affected areas include Kpenoe, Takla Torko, Takla Gbogame, Nyekonakpoe, Hodzo Aviefe, Hodzo Ga, Hodzo Atsianse, and other surrounding localities. Engineers were deployed to the site to replace the damaged pole and work towards restoring power.

Similarly, the Tema Region experienced outages affecting Tema New Town and its environs following a fault within the company’s network. ECG confirmed on Sunday that engineers were working assiduously to restore supply, though no specific timeline for full restoration was provided.

In the Greater Accra Region, the Accra East District also faced disruptions after a burnt transformer at Atomic Down Roundabout over the weekend. This fault impacted power supply to Atomic Down, Regimanuel Unity Gate, and surrounding communities.

In its public notices, ECG apologized to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused by both the unplanned infrastructure failures and the upcoming scheduled maintenance. The company urged customers to bear with engineers as they work to resolve the various faults, emphasizing that the planned exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term reliability of the power network across the regions.
