ECG announces widespread power outages for tomorrow

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in collaboration with the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), has announced a series of planned maintenance exercises scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The essential upgrades will temporarily disrupt power supply to numerous communities across the Volta, Tema, Central, and Greater Accra regions.

According to official advisories, the coordinated exercises are critical infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing service reliability and strengthening the stability of the national grid. While most outages are slated to begin at 9:00 am, durations will vary depending on the specific scope of work at each location.

Regional Breakdown of Affected Areas

Volta Region
The region will experience three separate maintenance operations. The most extensive will occur at the Kpando and Kadjeibi Bulk Supply Points from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The nine-hour interruption will affect:

· Kpando Township, Nkonya, Alavanyo, Agbenorxoe, Kwamekrom, Aziavi
· Ve-Dome, Ve-Golokwati, Amedzofe, Vane, Fume, Torkor
· Hohoe Township, Ayoma, Fodome, Kute, Sovie, Vakpo, and Anfoega, along with surrounding areas.

A shorter, one-hour exercise is scheduled at the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, impacting:

· Sogakope, Akatsi, Comboni, Anloga, the Naval Training Centre, Adutor
· Dabala, Cescineros, Yorkutikpo, Adidome, the GWCL pumping station, Woe, Agorta, and surrounding communities.

Tema Region
A maintenance exercise from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm will affect communities in the Tema area, including:

· Lashibi, Community 19 Annex, Klagon, Old Ningo, and New Ningo.

Central Region
The Central Region accounts for the most extensive geographical coverage with multiple exercises.

· First Exercise (9:00 am – 4:00 pm): Parts of Winneba Junction, Onyadzi, Bewadzi, Gomoa Otiew, Mprumem, Simbrofo, Apam, Mumford, Gomoa Dago, Gomoa Assin, Ankamu Junction. This also includes a long list of Gomoa communities such as Ajumako, Akwakrom, Obokrom, Kumasi, Enyame, Dankyie, Koforidua, Dawurampong, Nduam, Wassa, Nkran, Esikuman, Debiso, Darman, Abonko, Lome, and Ogun, along with their surrounding areas.
· Second Exercise (9:00 am – 4:00 pm): Afrangua Mpeseduadze, Obokor, Jedu, and surrounding areas.
· Third Exercise (10:00 am – 11:00 am): Ajumako township, Bisease, Kokoben, Eduyaw, Owane, Mando, Abaasa, Esarkyir, Gomoa Ayamaim, and surrounding localities.

Greater Accra Region

· Accra East (9:00 am – 5:00 pm): Aseidu Nketia, parts of Oyarifa, Gravel Pit, parts of Burma Camp, and surrounding areas.
· Accra West (9:00 am – 5:00 pm): Olebu, parts of Canada, new Bortianor, Adanseman, Cassava farm, Mr. Obeng block factory, Oshiyie, and surrounding communities.

Customer Advisory

In their public notices, ECG and GRIDCO extended their apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience these technical interventions cause to both domestic and commercial activities.

The companies have reassured the public that these exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network and to ultimately deliver improved and more reliable service to consumers across the regions. Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly.
