ECG announces Tema maintenance amid unplanned outages in Accra and Volta Regions

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is undertaking a planned maintenance exercise in the Tema Region today, Sunday, March 22, 2026, even as its engineers work to resolve unplanned power outages affecting parts of the Accra East and Volta Regions.

The scheduled maintenance in the Tema Region, initially announced earlier this month, began at 9:00 am and is expected to conclude by 3:00 pm. The six-hour exercise will impact a range of industrial and residential areas, including Wildlife, Inzag, Eastern Quarries, Recycling, Twin Quarries, Derby Quarries RSG, Rainbow Paints, Pharmanova, Saglemi Housing, Fenice Metal, Boiko, Lakpleku, the Military Training School at Shai Hills and Bundase, as well as surrounding communities. According to ECG, technicians are conducting essential infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing service reliability within the industrial corridor.

In the Accra East Region, customers in parts of Atomic are experiencing an unplanned power interruption following a burnt transformer at the Atomic Down Roundabout. In a statement released on Saturday, ECG confirmed that the fault has affected Atomic Down, Regimanuel Unity Gate, and adjoining areas. The company assured affected customers that engineers are working diligently to rectify the fault and restore normal supply as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, a separate emergency in the Volta Region has resulted in a power outage due to a cable fault on the Dzodze Feeder. ECG reported that the fault was caused by a road contractor whose activities damaged underground cable infrastructure. Communities affected include Tokor, Afiadenyigba, Atiteti, Ave Towns, Agborzume, Anlo, Nakyikope, Dzodze, and surrounding areas. Engineers have been deployed to the site to undertake repairs.

In its public notices, ECG extended apologies to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned outages. The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring the long-term reliability of the power network and urged customers to bear with engineers as they work to resolve the various faults and complete necessary upgrades.
