The Electricity Company of Ghana has scheduled an emergency maintenance exercise in the Ashanti Region for Friday, April 3, 2026, even as engineers continue to battle multiple network faults in the Accra West and Tema Regions that left several communities in darkness on Thursday.
According to an advisory issued by the power distributor, the emergency maintenance in the Ashanti Region will run from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm — a nine-hour outage affecting a sweeping list of communities.
These include Chirano, Nambro, Subri, Anhwiaso, Achease, Kwamekrom, K D Sereso, Bibiani, Mensin Gold, Tanodumase, Nyinahin, Koffuor Camp, Bayerebon, Nagole, Ntoborosso, Adobewura, Nhwiafutu, Kotkuom, Akorabokrom, Agogoso, Anyinamso 1 and 2, and surrounding areas.
The extensive operation is aimed at addressing urgent network issues to prevent further deterioration of service quality in the gold-rich corridor.
Faults in Accra West and Tema Regions
These scheduled interventions come as the ECG continues to manage the aftermath of network faults that struck two regions on Thursday, April 2.
In the Accra West Region, a fault disrupted power to Pepsicola, Morden Automobile Service, Ghamot, Tamakloe House, and surrounding areas. Engineers were deployed to restore supply as soon as possible, according to a company statement.
In the Tema Region, a separate network fault affected the Tema Industrial Area, the DVLA, Tasty Tom, and surrounding areas. The ECG assured affected customers that engineers were working to rectify the fault and restore normal supply.
The company has not yet indicated whether power has been fully restored to these areas. It urged customers experiencing persistent outages to report through its Contact Centre, the ECG PowerApp, or its official social media handles.
Apology to customers
In its public notices, the ECG extended apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled emergency maintenance and the unplanned network faults.
The company reassured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve all network issues while emphasising that the planned exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network across the regions.
