Duabo King remanded for one week over alleged false publication

The King of Duabo in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region has been remanded into police custody for one week by an Accra Circuit Court over allegations of false publication.

The traditional leader appeared before the court following a police complaint that he had circulated materials containing what authorities describe as misleading information capable of raising public concern. Officials say the publications had the potential to disturb public peace, leading to legal action against the monarch.

During the court session, the presiding judge ordered the one-week remand to enable police investigators to complete their inquiries. The case has been adjourned to later this month, when formal charges may be filed depending on the outcome of the investigation.

No plea was entered by the Duabo King at this stage, and he made no public comment following the ruling.

Police investigations are ongoing, including witness interviews and a review of the materials in question. The case highlights the enforcement of Ghana’s laws governing publications and public communications, which prohibit the dissemination of information that could mislead the public or threaten national peace.

Residents of the area have expressed mixed reactions, with some calling for strict adherence to the law while others have urged authorities to seek a resolution that avoids prolonged detention.

The court is expected to reconvene later this month for the next hearing.
