Court clears Daddy Lumba’s funeral to proceed

What initially appeared to be a major setback for the wider family of highlife legend Daddy Lumba has been resolved, after the Accra High Court lifted an injunction on the funeral arrangements, clearing the way for the ceremony to take place today, Saturday.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, the court noted that affidavits filed before it suggested the immediate family had been sidelined in the planning process, stressing that the substantive issues in the case required proper consideration.

Lawyers for both parties were recalled to court, where the judge directed the applicants to appear by 2:00 pm and pay GH¢2 million into court to cover costs already incurred in the funeral preparations.

The applicants failed to meet the deadline, leading the court to strike out their application. This effectively removed the legal barrier and allowed the funeral activities to proceed as scheduled.

Counsel for the family head, Thomas Kwadwo Osei, described the ruling as a huge relief, saying the family can now move ahead with final preparations.

The earlier injunction had temporarily halted planned activities, raising anxiety among relatives and fans who had already gathered in Kumasi. With the application dismissed, the funeral arrangements are now back on course to take place today at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
