Controversial relationship counsellor Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, widely known as Counsellor Lutterodt, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service. His arrest follows allegations that he made inciteful comments regarding the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
According to a statement released by the police, Mr. Lutterodt is accused of making remarks in a now-viral video that encouraged some youth to storm the residence of the deceased musician. Authorities have stated that the comments were capable of inciting public unrest and disturbing the peace.
The police clarified that their preliminary investigations indicate the offensive statements were made in connection with ongoing discussions surrounding the late icon. Consequently, the comments were deemed likely to cause a breach of public order.
Following his apprehension, the counsellor was taken to the CID headquarters in Accra, where he was interrogated by investigators.
In its update on the case, the police service confirmed that Mr. Lutterodt has been granted bail. He is scheduled to appear before court on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The accused will face charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace, which contravenes Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). Additionally, he faces charges of inciting violence, in contravention of both the Criminal Offences Act and the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).
In the wake of the incident, the police have issued an appeal to the general public, urging restraint. They have cautioned citizens against making comments that could inflame tensions or lead to disturbances, particularly on sensitive matters involving public figures.
The case is expected to be formally heard once the suspect appears before the court later this week.
