The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared that its nationwide strike will continue “unabated,” rejecting recent mediation efforts by authorities over a dispute concerning a separate salary structure for its members.
In a press conference held in Accra on Thursday, the union’s leadership announced that its National Executive Council (NEC) had reviewed the current state of the industrial action, which commenced on March 9, 2026, and resolved to maintain it.
“The National Executive Council of CLOGSAG reviewed all interventions that had been made in relation to the strike action embarked on by CLOGSAG from March 9,” said Isaac Bampoe Addo, the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG. “After deliberations, it was unanimously decided that the strike action should continue unabated.”
The decision directly follows a meeting convened by the National Labour Commission (NLC) on March 11, aimed at resolving the impasse between the union and the government. However, CLOGSAG officials were notably absent from that session.
Addressing the absence, Mr. Bampoe Addo criticized the NLC’s handling of the process, arguing that proceeding without all parties present undermined the principles of fair dialogue. He stated that the association did not receive formal communication regarding the engagement.
“You invite us to a meeting, and one party is not around and then you go ahead and make decisions. That is not natural justice,” Mr. Bampoe Addo asserted, emphasizing that the association had not received any official notification about the proceedings.
The ongoing strike, now in its fifth day, stems from CLOGSAG’s demand for the implementation of an independent salary structure for its members, a proposal that remains a point of contention with the government. With the union holding its ground, the dispute shows no immediate signs of resolution.
