Bono East Regional Minister pledges support for Peace Council to bolster regional stability

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, has called for a strengthened partnership with the Bono East Regional Peace Council, emphasizing that sustained peace is the bedrock of development and economic progress in the region.

The Minister made the appeal on Friday when a delegation from the Peace Council, led by its Chairman, Rev. Prince Owusu-Asaku, paid a courtesy call on him in Techiman. The visit was part of the Council’s broader stakeholder engagement strategy aimed at fostering dialogue and reinforcing social cohesion across the region’s various districts.

During the meeting, Hon. Owusu Antwi lauded the Peace Council for its indispensable role in maintaining tranquility and mediating disputes at the community level. He noted that the Council’s proactive efforts in promoting dialogue and community engagement have been instrumental in preventing conflicts and nurturing a spirit of harmony among the diverse populations in the Bono East Region.

“Your work in mediating disputes and promoting peace is not just commendable; it is fundamental to the progress we seek,” Hon. Owusu Antwi stated. “Peace is the essential ingredient for development. A stable environment attracts investment, boosts economic activities, and ultimately improves the livelihoods of our people.”

The Regional Minister reiterated his office’s full commitment to supporting the Council’s peace-building initiatives. He stressed the need for a seamless collaboration between government institutions and peace-building bodies to safeguard the region’s stability, which he described as a model for others.

Rev. Prince Owusu-Asaku, the Council Chairman, explained that the visit was intended to introduce the newly constituted Council to the Minister and to discuss strategies for deepening their collaborative efforts. He underscored the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining peace, especially as development projects expand across the region.

“We are here to strengthen the bond between the Council and the Regional Coordinating Council,” Rev. Owusu-Asaku said. “Ensuring that Bono East remains a beacon of peace requires the collective effort of all stakeholders, from traditional leaders to government officials. We are committed to working hand-in-hand with the Minister to achieve this.”

The engagement forms part of the Bono East Regional Peace Council’s ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and ensure the region remains stable and conducive for accelerated development. Both parties expressed confidence that through continuous dialogue and mutual cooperation, the spirit of unity that defines the Bono East Region would be sustained for years to come.
