Bono East Minister seeks stronger Police collaboration in security push

The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi, has called for enhanced collaboration between regional authorities and the Ghana Police Service to tackle growing security threats in the area.

During a courtesy call on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, the Minister underscored the need for coordinated strategies to preserve peace and public safety in the rapidly developing region.

Hon. Owusu Antwi lauded the Police Service for its continued dedication to protecting lives and property, while reaffirming the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to working alongside security agencies to sustain stability.

Describing the engagement as both cordial and productive, the Minister reiterated the government’s determination to foster peace and development across Bono East—a region increasingly challenged by illegal mining, cross-jurisdictional crime, cyber fraud, land disputes, and the proliferation of small arms.

As a key commercial and transit hub linking southern Ghana to the middle belt, the region’s strategic importance continues to grow. So too, officials say, do the complexities of maintaining law and order.

The call for heightened security collaboration comes amid broader government efforts to strengthen national security infrastructure. Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, speaking at the commissioning of the Bono Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) in Sunyani, reiterated that sustainable development hinges on a peaceful environment.

“Ghana can only develop in a peaceful environment,” the Interior Minister said. “The government is committed to providing the framework needed to secure the peace required for this region’s development.”

The latest high-level engagement signals an urgent focus on preemptive security measures and inter-agency coordination to safeguard communities and economic activity in Bono East.
