Bawumia thanks campaign team and supporters after strong showing in NPP primaries

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed appreciation to his campaign team, parliamentary supporters, and party executives following his impressive performance in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Speaking at his campaign collation centre ahead of the Electoral Commission’s official declaration of results, Dr Bawumia attributed his success to the dedication and teamwork of those who supported his bid.

“You’re only as good as your team in these matters, and I can say without any fear of contradiction that I have been blessed with an excellent team,” he said.

He singled out his national campaign coordinators and broader campaign team for their vital contributions, noting that their collective efforts made a significant difference.

“The campaign team in general, everybody has contributed so much. I cannot thank everyone individually at the moment, but I will have time to do so,” he added.

Dr Bawumia reserved special commendation for Members of Parliament who backed his candidacy, describing their support as outstanding.

“The MPs who have stood by my side have been phenomenal in this contest. They truly supported me and delivered on what they promised. I thank all the MPs who supported me,” he stated.

He also extended his gratitude to party executives who organised the primaries, the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible process.

His remarks come as provisional results from across the country show him holding a commanding lead over his four rivals—Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

More than 211,000 delegates voted at over 300 polling centres nationwide in the closely contested race to choose the party’s flagbearer for future elections.

The Electoral Commission is expected to officially declare the final results after the completion of collation from all centres, a process widely projected to confirm Dr Bawumia as the NPP’s next flagbearer.
