Asantehene ends Bawku mediation, calls for permanent peace

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has concluded his months-long mediation in the Bawku chieftaincy dispute, urging both sides to prepare their communities for a lasting end to violence, describing them as “one people.”

The final meeting took place on December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where delegations from the Mamprusi and Kusasi factions met face-to-face. Chief Tarana John Wuni Grunah led the Mamprusi team, while Naba Tambis Baalug headed the Kusasi delegation. Former MP Cletus Avoka and Dr. Issah served as spokespersons for the respective groups.

According to the palace, the meeting was cordial, with both sides highlighting their shared heritage and the futility of continued conflict. The Asantehene will now submit a report with his recommendations to President John Dramani Mahama, hoping the President will convene a formal meeting of all parties to announce the mediation outcome and secure lasting peace.
