Armed robbers snatch over GH¢800,000 in gold in daylight attack at Diaso

A five-member armed robbery gang has carried out a bold daylight attack on a gold shop in Diaso in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, making away with gold worth more than GH¢800,000 and a pickup vehicle.

According to Kenneth Nuamah, an affiliate reporter of Adom News with Rich One FM 96.3, the incident occurred on a busy market day when the town was crowded with traders and residents.

The suspects reportedly arrived in a vehicle, with four of them storming the gold shop while a fifth remained outside, firing warning shots with an AK-47 rifle and a sidearm to scare off onlookers. The gunfire triggered panic, causing people in the area to flee for safety.

After the robbery, the gang escaped with the stolen gold and a pickup truck, abandoning the vehicle they used to carry out the attack.

Police have since arrested one suspect, while four others remain on the run. The incident has left residents and traders in shock, especially given Diaso’s reputation as a prominent mining community.

Some community members reportedly converged at the local police station, demanding access to the arrested suspect. Police have since secured the area, and investigations are ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.
