Abandoned newborn found near Bronyibima Estate in stable condition, says Gender Ministry

A newborn baby girl, discovered abandoned near the Bronyibima Estate in the Central Region, is in stable condition and receiving necessary medical care, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has confirmed.

In an official statement released on Friday, the Ministry provided an update on the infant, who is believed to be approximately one day old. The baby was found by community members who promptly alerted the authorities.

“The baby… is currently receiving medical attention and is reported to be in a stable condition,” the Ministry’s statement read. Following the rescue, officials from the Department of Social Welfare have taken temporary custody of the child to ensure her immediate safety and continued care.

The MoGCSP assured the public that the infant’s well-being is the top priority. “Appropriate measures have been made to ensure the baby is well catered for, while we continue to trace the family,” the statement added.

Investigation Underway

The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, has launched an investigation to identify and locate the mother or any close relatives of the child.

The Ministry has publicly commended the community members who rescued the baby for their swift and compassionate action. It is appealing to anyone with information that could assist the ongoing investigation to come forward.

“We also urge parents or guardians facing challenges to seek support through appropriate social welfare services in situations involving unplanned or crisis pregnancies,” the Ministry emphasized.
