Frederick Lartey Otu appointed chairman of AFTU Development Committee

Mr. Frederick Lartey Otu has been appointed Chairman of the Africa Taekwondo Union (AFTU) Development Committee, in a move many are describing as a well-deserved recognition of his years of service to the sport.

The appointment, announced over the weekend, celebrates Otu’s experience, leadership, and commitment to the growth of Taekwondo in Ghana and across Africa.

“This prestigious appointment is a well-deserved recognition of your experience, leadership, commitment and unwavering dedication,” a congratulatory message from the AFTU read.

Otu, a respected figure in African sports administration, is being tasked with leading strategic efforts to build capacity, create opportunities for athletes, and unite the continent’s Taekwondo family under one vision.

Colleagues and sports administrators have rallied behind him, describing the appointment as well-earned and promising greater impact.

“Strong leadership, greater impact, brighter future,” one tribute noted.

The new chairman is expected to focus on grassroots development, technical excellence, and sustainable growth. His philosophy, insiders say, has always been “service above self for a greater cause.”

Otu has already signalled his readiness to work with national federations to build a stronger Taekwondo ecosystem in Ghana and beyond.

“Together, let’s build a stronger Taekwondo in Ghana and Africa,” the AFTU statement added.

The appointment comes at a critical time as the continent prepares for major championships, raising hopes of a new era of development and unity in the sport.
