Frederick Acheampong, Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee and Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has fired back at mounting pressure to include defender Derrick Köhn in the national team.
In a no-holds-barred interview on Kessben Sports, Acheampong dismissed the recent outcry—particularly from the player’s relatives—as misplaced, insisting that selection decisions rest solely with the technical handlers.
“Even Derrick Köhn, whose uncles have been making a lot of noise, how many World Cup qualifying matches has he played?” Acheampong queried.
His comments come amid growing calls from some supporters and family members for Köhn’s inclusion in recent Black Stars squads. The defender has seen limited action in Ghana’s FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, a fact Acheampong used to undercut the criticism.
He further stressed that player selection is not subject to external pressure, but is based on performance, tactical needs, and overall contribution to the team.
“It remains the responsibility of the technical team,” Acheampong added, making it clear that emotions or public campaigns would not dictate who dons the Black Stars jersey.
